Community Advanced Practice Nurses, Inc. is a non-profit clinic providing free physical, mental, and preventive health care to homeless and medically underserved individuals and families in Metropolitan Atlanta.
Persons are served without regard to race, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, political affiliation or national origin.
Our clinic is located in Genesis "A New Life" shelter for newborn babies and mothers in Atlanta. We also send two pediatric nurse practitioners to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children each Tuesday and Thursday to provide specialized pediatric health care. Additionally, physical and/or mental health care services are rendered at our other outreach sites (Atlanta Children’s Shelter, Nicholas House at Boulevard and Lavista, Mary Hall Freedom House, Grace United Methodist Church and Stand Up For Kids).
Our on-site presence in the Genesis Shelter gives us unique access to clients. Many women and children do not seek care due to lack of trust in the system, lack of transportation to providers, lack of documentation or ability to pay for health care services. In addition, some parents have delusional or paranoid behavior. Our staff has intimate access to them in the shelter, providing opportunities to establish trusting relationships and facilitate care. We are able to see mothers and children in their lived environment, assess their interactions, anticipate problems, and provide intervention.
While CAPN is ten years old, founded in 1998, its practitioners have a longer, more experienced history in working with homeless and medically underserved. We have long been on the forefront of health care delivery to this population and are dedicated and committed to providing free health care to the homeless and medically underserved of Atlanta.
