Community Advanced Practice Nurses provides free physical, mental and preventive health care to homeless and medically underserved individuals and families in Metropolitan Atlanta. Persons are served without regard to race, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, political affiliation or national origin. Our clinic is located at Genesis "A New Life" for new born babies and mothers in Atlanta. We also have two pediatric nurse practitioners in the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children each Thursday to provide specialized pediatric health care. Our on-site presence in the Genesis Shelter gives us unique access to clients. Many women and children do not seek care due to lack of trust in the system, lack of transportation to providers, lack of documentation or ability to pay for health care services. In addition, some parents have delusional or paranoid behavior. Our staff can reach out to them in the shelter, establish a trusting relationship and facilitate their access to care. We are able to see mothers and children in their lived environment, assess their interactions, anticipate problems and provide intervention. While CAPN is a relatively new organization, founded in 1998, its members have a long and experienced history in working with homeless and medically underserved. We have been in the forefront of health care delivery to these populations and are dedicated and committed to providing free health care to the homeless and medically underserved of Atlanta. Community Advanced Practice Nurses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine City of Atlanta - HUD |
